Halloween's of the Past

I have a feeling my years of all the kids dressing up for

Halloween are numbered.  

The two oldest hadn't wanted to dress up at all this year

(until this week - last minute costumes to the rescue!)

Here is a reflection of all the costumes we have had in the past.

{ 2009 }

This was our first year as parents.  

Man were we overwhelmed. 

And not ready for the intense candy rush that happens

after eating WAY too much candy. 

(I talking about us not the kids.  wink wink)

Lil Miss and I were only 2 days post our escape from the hospital

when trick or treaters came to the door this year.

Trick or Treat

This week was full of preparations for Trick or Treat. 

We started the week carving/painting pumpkins. 

The girls all chose to paint their pumpkins, and I am convinced that is a less messy option. 

The weather was so wonderful last Sunday that we did everything outside.  

I can't say that today because it is bitter cold this morning. 

 We participated in the #tealpumpkinproject and painted one of our pumpkins teal to 

support children with food allergies. 

We had eyeball rings and spinning tops for anyone who wanted a non-food item.

Having a child with a food allergy, I understand the frustration some moms can 

have with this time of year.   

Gigi really keeps an eye on what goes in her Halloween basket to make sure she eats nothing with nuts. 

When someone passes out a Snickers, a Butterfinger, or a Reese's Peanut Butter Cup, she politely 

takes the treat, says thank you, and then puts it into one of her siblings baskets. 

Dad and I go through her loot thoroughly so that she didn't miss anything before she can eat any treats. 

Food allergies are no joke.  

The kids had tried on their costumes many times that week.

They love to dress up. 

 Lil Miss was able to wear her costume to preschool on Friday and was so excited.  

Can you believe it, she was the only Elsa in her class!  

Our town trick or treated on October 31st this year, so as soon as the kids got home from school 

they were transforming into their characters.  

 This year we had a rockstar, a Greek goddess, Storm Shadow (from G.I. Joe), and of course Elsa. 

 In 15 minutes they had enough candy to last til the end of the year, but they wanted to knock on more doors so we kept on trick or treating.  We now have enough candy to last a lifetime.  

Trick or Treat

Halloween is over but we still have enough

candy to last us through the winter.

As much as I detest dressing up for Halloween,

I love to help my kids celebrate the holiday. 

We waited until the last possible day to carve or "paint" pumpkins. 

Daddy had been so busy and I dreaded doing the whole carving

thing by myself because I don't really let the kids

use sharp knives... so paint it was.

  The girls had a blast painting the pumpkins. 

I had everything set up after school and the kids were excited to get started.

We added a little bling this year. 

They turned out so cute!

Of course you know which one is the boy's.

The next day we ventured out into the rain for trick or treat. 

Costumes for the girls were all handmade, the ninja costume was not.

Lil Miss was Snow White.

Rosie was a beautiful butterfly.

Gigi was a peacock.

Bubba was Storm Shadow from G I Joe.



There was a bit of a drizzle all night as we trick or treated but that didn't

dampen the kids spirits. 

The worst part was waiting until Daddy got home to go.

He didn't pull into the driveway until 5:05 and the kids were

going bonkers... missing a whole 5 minutes of trick or treat time. 

After an hour in the rain and walking around the neighborhood the

kids were content to stay at home and pick through their loot.

Mommy just wanted a coffee and to sit by the fire to get warm.

 

Our neighbors are too good to our kids.

They got big sized candy bars, Wendy's frosty coupons, and

bags of goodies... plus some. 

It took Lil Miss awhile to get the hang of it.  The first house she went up to

she screamed "Candy!!" instead of "Trick or Treat". 

By the third or fourth house she got into the rhythm.

As for all the projects it seems like I am in the middle of about 20 different things. 

Right now I am trying to crank out a fun unique birthday gift for baby girl and a few halloween costumes for the kids.

At least 3 of the kids are going with the Wizard of Oz theme .. or for our family it is more like the Wiz this year.   I am finished with Gigi's outfit.  Can you guess which character she is going to be?

And I love her new shoes!!!  I am planning on using them for christmas and so many other days to make her outfits sparkle!!

My fingers are working as fast as I can.
